Create a Map Report

Map reports allow you to geographically display multiple selections of data onto one map view. After adding selections for a map report, you can customise the report by colour coding selections and/or changing the map style.

Creating a new Map Report

  1. Open a new Map Report window, which will initially display a standard Atlas.

  2. Click and drag sets of data onto your map. These can be dragged from either the navigation/campaign palette on the left or from the Tab Bar at the bottom of your window. Once dragged onto the map, these will then plot the records from your selection geographically.

  3. Add up to 5 sets of data to the Map Report. In the below example, we have chosen to display transactions within the last week, split by their Source Channels, based on where the buyer lives.

In the above, you can now see a distribution of each of these transactions, overlaying each other. In the above, we have chosen to display a Hex Highest display, which will highlight each area based on the highest occurring value in that area.

Customising your Report

Colour Schemes

Each of the Selections has been colour coded, to differentiate each value. These colours can be configured by clicking on the current colour, which will open up the Colour Palette.

Once selected, this will change any segments which are represented by that Selection. If we were to change the "Call Centre" Selection to Purple, any segments across the UK which had the highest representation of Call Centre transactions, would then be displayed as Purple.

Selection Hierarchy

To re-arrange and re-prioritise your report, you can click and drag any of your segments to re-order them. As with the below screenshot, we have clicked on "Call Centre" and can drag it above or below any of our other segments.

As we can see from the original screenshot compared to our new screenshot below, we have prioritised displaying Web purchases over Call Centre transactions. This was done by clicking on our Call Centre Selection, and dragging it below our Web Purchases.

We can see the effect this has now had on our heat map, which has now prioritised displaying Web purchase transactions over Call Centre transactions, with the heat map now having a higher concentration of blue heat-segments over yellow.

Configuring your Report

Map Types

  • Heatmaps - The default view, this will display a heat map on the map. This will work based on the Priority order of your selections. The concentration of these colours is dependant on how many records are within that geographic area.

  • Hex Highest Fixed - This view will group your map into geographic segments of equal size. Each of these segments is then colour coded, based on the most represented selection within that segment.

  • Hex Highest Scaled - Similar to hex Highest First, this will group the map into multiple segments. This section now shows the same representation of Segments based on the transactions but with the added functionality of scaling each area based on the total volume of transactions.

Map Styles

  • OpenStreetMap Standard - The default view, labels key Cities and regions, with Main roads and regions displayed on the map

  • Toner - Focuses on Main motorways and Cities, with pinpoints for labels.

  • Toner Lite - Similar to Toner with labels and areas, but a lighter colour contrast rather than the black background

  • Toner Background - Same as Toner but excludes any City / Named labels. Shows Country Regions, Main Motorways and travel routes.

  • Terrain - Shows a Terrain View, with Key Counties and areas labelled, and Mountain regions displayed.

  • Watercolour - A watercolour style, highlighting main roads.
